Today a guy, that works with my husband, told him he has a hard time telling roosters from hens because he had a hen that began laying and then started to crow!
I didn't know this was possible:D:/
Has anyone else had this experience?

Yep, I've had crowing hens, proven fertile females. They can also grow normal spurs and mate with other females, and I don't just mean 'jump on their backs'. Since both males and females have cloaca (there's no penis) its the same process mechanically, more or less. If they grow rooster feathering, that's when you assume they are either roosters or hormonally imbalanced hens.

Best wishes.

Well...there are reports that sometimes sex reversed hens have sired offspring. Crazy!

I've heard some claims of that, but no proof; the topic pops up on this forum every now and then but nothing has yet come of it.

Do you know of any sources which have any substantiated claims? It's that big perennial issue... 'Until proven it's a myth'... I think it isn't too unlikely, personally, especially when you learn about gynandromorphs... And personally I have found the truth in too many old wives' tales and myths to discard the possibility out of hand.

It'd be handy as far as mutations go, or aberrations anyway. I can imagine some commercial benefits.

Best wishes.
