It's been years since I've had horses. I don't remember them crowing. @Overo Mare do horses crow?

Religiously. Every morning.

That is exactly why my coop lights don't go on till 6:30am.. and instead stay on at night till 9pm. I don't want to annoy my neighbor with 5am crows because mine do crow, once or twice, at first light.

What kind of pepper needs 18 hours of light? I am getting some peppers with normal winter light, about 10 hours.

Can you block the light? Like putting a heavy blanket over the quail or the pepper light?

Think of parrot people putting a blanket over the cage so the birds will hush. Or put them in a different room? Maybe little blind folds for the quail. That'd be cute. Like little sleeping masks.
