Crowing question

Is it true that some "hens" will crow if they are the dominate one. I have a Standard size Brahma that I was for sure a hen by the feathers and comb features. I was standing outside today and heard her make a very bad crowing sound not once, but 3 times. She did sound better the 3rd time but still far off as far as a good sounding crow. I just want to confirm I am not going to have to get rid of a bird. All input appreciated as I am still a rookie in this business.

I heard that some hens will do that when the flock lacks a rooster. Sometimes the most dominant hen will step up and be a "rooster".
Ive never seen it myself but heard it from alot of people.

I don't think it has anything to do with whether or not there are any roosters in the flock or dominance. They probably have a hormonal imbalance or maybe even gynandromorphs. I had a gynandromorph that laid eggs and crowed. If I were you I would check this bird thoroughly to see if one half is slightly different than the other. These birds are male on one side and female on the other. Sometimes there is an obvious difference in the halves and in others almost none at all.

How old is she/he? Do you have pictures? Are you sure it's not her egg song? Sometimes they start that a few days Before they start laying.
