Crowing Roos, Ugh!

Freezer camp is out of the question for these guys. I rescued them from there, so eating them would be pointless. They are my EW's.

I have found a fairly descent solution. I put them all in a box at night and put a blanket on top of the box. The blanked absorbs the sound. My other solution is a short cage where they can stand up, but not stretch their necks out enough to crow.

I love my quail and won't be eating these ones. Perhaps their babies, but not them.

No coturnix crow can go unanswered! Yes, they are loud, and in the house....well, they are in the house, so it's loud.
Short of freezer camp, the only thing you can do is give him the 2-5 hens he wants, and hope no other roo sounds off, because "NO COTURNIX CROW CAN GO UNANSWERED"!

If a box or blanket would have solved the noise....I would have probably figured that one out by now....LOL...A blanket...sorry, I have to chuckle

the blanket muffels the sound coming from the box, so it does work to an extent. the short box is what really worked. not a single crow. they would hit their heads when they stretched and just not crow. I only had a few of them until they gave up.

Chuckle all you want, but I solved it.

hahaha...THOSE little stinkers huh? How are they doing ...obviously they have some good vocals! want a couple more( seriously) ?

Probably not til spring. I could use a couple of EW females.

I would also love some eggs if you have them. I like the bodies on these EW's.

I did have to sell a couple of the Browns. They were causing trouble. they went to a 4H'er who was starting with quail.

Hope the 4-H er has LOTS of hens! these guys all seem to do best with about 6-8 hens each!

If my EWs survive till spring i 'll be happy to send you eggs. i like the looks of them too, i just wish they'd "play" nice....i had to bring 1 of the few hens i have in today for doctoring , she had both eyes messed up and chunks of feathers pulled from her head by a E.W. male this morning...
