Crowing roosters? can they be trained to shut up?

I like the shock collar. Today was my day off, we were going to sleep in, until out little Mille D'Uccle had different plans. We were able to count to 10 between every crow. I swear he crowed every 10 seconds, extremely annoying. We were thinking of different ways to stop the maddness. We got up, looked at each other and I said, "Where's the axe." lol

The best suggestion I've herd is a totally dark blacked out interior. Good ventilation would still be needed. The extra dark might slow down egg production.

If the blackout did not stop the crowing -- maybe it would muffle the sound a little.

Anybody have experience trying this? My current coop is a modified dog kennel -- lots and lots of outside view.
