Hey,

I am having an issue regarding Crows, those horrible egg eating monsters. Each day I hear them squaking over at the chooking pen. Because I have an open roofed chook yard they just pop in and grab the eggs.
Lately I have only been recieving 1 egg out of 35 good laying hens.
Any ideas on how to repel the stupid crows??

Thanks

A BB gun? Slingshot? they might be protected though. Best check on that first.
A chicken friendly cat or three might do the trick if the above don't work for whatever reason. A roof made of chicken wire would to.

Thanks. no crows are not protected as they are everywhere and they each native animals such as goannas and smaller birds. :)

Crows are smart. Typically too smart to be simply repelled. At least they are here. Shoot a big one and the rest should get the message. If they come back, shoot another and hang the corpse from a post near the coop. They are territorial, so they should stay away for some time, or until their territory gets rearranged.

We have an abundance of annoying crows in our area. They will raid our bird feeders and make a general noisy nuisance of themselves. I only need to make an occasional example of one and they stay away.

Good luck, crows are very smart.

I feel there are two options if crows are cleaning you out. One is a bird net over the run, Bunnings sell white bird nets for as cheap as $8 for a 4m2 white net.

Option 2 is a little more elaborate, but it's the same method I would use for an egg eater and thats a roll away nest box.

Something along the lines of this.

In addition, we currently have very few eggs too, our best layers are molting so we are getting two problems, almost no eggs and tons of feathers blowing around!

Best of luck solving this issue.

I tried a scarecrow while back.
Soon after you put it out there theyfigure out it's not a real person and begin to use it as a roost! Ahahaha :D Thanks for the suggestion though. :)

12 gauge. Which I'm guessing is probably not an option...

So chicken wire.

Or, if you are feeling creative, Build something mechanical to scare them.
