This afternoon we locked the chooks out of the coop and let the ducks run around for awhile. They are getting huge. Hoping to get their duck coop up this weekend. Their names are now Cypress, Aspen, Willow, and of course Lucky. They are getting much tamer.

Left the top off the bantam pen to let them out if they wanted. For the most part they stayed in, one would fly out every now and then but then go back in. Except for little Angel. She wasn’t happy unless she was crawling around on us, usually on our shoulder or head.

And then there were 4, with another in the zipping process. 3 blues and 1 partridge. I am very pleasantly surprised by the results so far. To be honest, from my observations I pegged Barbosa as the dominate rooster in the pen. He is certainly the one I see the most actively servicing the girls. Davy is always laid back, watchful and I guess shy as I have never saw him breed one of the girls in my presence.

It also just dawned on me that I need to closely look at each partridge chick when I move them to the brooder. Blue partridge is a very real possibility as well. As is whatever color grandma Poppet is. I wish I knew what her down color was at hatch. I would also hang onto another mini Poppet.

I have lost count on the number of pipped eggs, the chicks are rolling them around when I shine the light on them and it seems like more are pipping each time I look. These little nuggets are arriving right on schedule as day 21 officially started at 8pm this evening. I've witnessed 2 pop out and the ease with which they are hatching is a relief. I adore my Marans, and the mixes. The one downfall I have to them is their eggshells. That dark color makes for harder or thicker shells and difficulty hatching. Do not get me wrong, those dark eggs are by far my favorite and the hens and roosters rank right up there with the silkies as my favorites. Having hatched so many now, I will definitely say to get them they have come with a cost.

Forgot to post this for Wattles Weds.

Stopped for feed after work Tues and saw this. Promptly thought of everyone unable to keep roos

put a Bluetooth speaker in him and play some of our Crow-off video sounds. The neighbors can't complain without looking like idiots.
