Crows

I had two barred rocks before I moved. If a single crow came around the yard one of my hens would charge it and chase it away. Other times the bird came with its whole gang and when they were in a group my hens would run to their coop. Crows want the scratch and worms on the ground but they have no reason to attack a chicken.

Crows chase off our hawks... but now I think I have a kesterel watching my birds. They are small enough that the crows don't notice! Never thought I would want crows around...

I just read that if you think its a crow and its soaring (and you KNOW its not a buzzard) there's a good chance its a raven.

They will snatch a chick if they get a chance but they are fabulous Hawk deterrents. I feed a family of crows at a base of tree about 25' or so from my coop...everytime a redtail comes through those crows take off after it and attack the hawk until it leaves.

So...I have no problem with the crows.

I love my crows. They sound the call when a hawk is nearby, and swoop and dive at them when one flies nearby.
