Crows

It's not just hawks they will chase off, by the way. We have a pair of nesting golden eagles on the farm, the most awesome birds to watch. The crows give them no peace at all.

I want crows!!!! and this week will start to put some feeders up that they hopefully will come to.

crows will get eggs if they can. I had a pet crow who learned when the hen cackles, she just laid an egg. he would go immediatly and get the egg. he would fly around carrying it and laughing at me until he dropped it and when it broke, he would eat it. they do learn to talk. he would mimic whatever he heard including the dog, the cat, and the roosters. and a few words of english. quite the comic!
but he also saved more than one of my chickens from hawks.

cool info!

I love the crows! I might lose the occasional barnyard egg (that my egg sucking dog would probably get anyhow) and they might be a problem when I have chicks on the ground (we'll see), BUT I know I would have had hawk/eagle losses to my free ranging flock if they weren't around.

oh quit it. a crow couldn't catch a pigeon.

crows would kill and eat anything they could, but they are not going to attempt to bother a full grown chicken.

Crows are the alarmists in my neighborhood. Crows and sometimes blue-jays. When I hear them I always am on the look out. Nine times out of ten I will see them scare some thing up

I stopped my car one day to watch an aerial dog fight between crow and hawk, it was amazing. They were actually hitting each other mid-air, and the crow was relentless. I never really thought about them chasing hawks away from my property. I have also rescued a baby mockingbird that a crow dropped after they took it from a nest so I am sure they would steal chicks if they could. But I like crows, they are funny and smart. Maybe too smart. They make me cover my seedlings, but it is a small price to pay for the joy I get from watching some of their antics.
