Crud. No shell, Romy's puny.

Thanks, Miss Lydia. Temps are dropping like a stone, here. I made a couple of nesty spots in the night pen, piling up some chopped straw in a couple of different corners.

Romy is very good about eating her special treats. And everyone is on layer for now.
Romy is such a good girl... it's going to hit us Tuesday morning low teens then by the weekend they are saying 5* So today i spent a good part of the day getting ready for it for my flock, I wish I could bring them in when it gets like this. Oh dreaming of spring time.

At this point in time, with such a small flock and space in the walkout, I am grateful. It is unheated, but very very well insulated (house on top, and east wall nestled into the ground). Also grateful for overalls with quilted lining. And scarves and gloves. And heavy socks.

We dashed out for shavings, sawdust pellets and chopped straw this afternoon in case there was any problem getting around for the next week. Brought in more firewood, drained hoses and put them in the garage, and so forth.

I'm glad she is stable. Were in the mid of a horrible cold front... 12F with wind chill of 1 (i converted again lol) For my own understanding were -11C my barn is at 0 right now the ducks are all in, with food/water.

They seem content well with the exception of "BD" he is in a stall, he is too aggressive with my other drake in confined spaces, he'll live i just think he's mad his lady refused to join him, they must have had a tiff

I got two eggs this morning, and i have re-added my oyster shell since obviously some are starting to lay consistently, i have gotten an egg a day for a few days now... this was the time with two, one is Lilly she lays a very distinctive egg shape.

Thats amazing your getting eggs already, we are having plenty of mating going on but i hope they hold off a while longer on the eggs,

Thats so nice Amiga that you have a place like that for your ducks, I'm sure they appreciate it too.

Update: yesterday Romy produced another no-shelled egg. Checked with the vet and I am going to keep her on twice-a-day 1.5 mL neocalglucan for another week. No surprise that she has not yet responded. It will take some time to rebuild the Ca in her system. Mercy. They hide problems so well.

Every domestic animal in our household is on some kind of specific supplement or immune booster right now. Must be winter.

She stopped laying for a few weeks, then yesterday gave us a soft egg.

Will keep up with the Neocalglucon and increase the number of nights the flock gets Ca gluconate in their water.

She seems happy and perky. Bean has finally figured out Romy is interested in him, so she has really perked up since he started paying special attention to her.
