Crumble vs. Pellet

My birds are around 9 months old and have fed on nothing but crumble, seems a little wasteful looking below their outside feeder, any issues switching to pellet?

Unless you're feeding baby chicks, no. Crumbles are just broken pellets.

Chickens generally hate switching to pellets. Expect to mix 50/50 for a while during the switch over. I would never go back to crumble except for chick feed. There was so much waste with it.

Mine just eat the feed they're given--unless corn is available. Then they hold out. It's weird seeing how different flocks react to the same thing.

What kind of feeder do you have and how high is it from the ground? Do you have a pic? You could also make a no waste feeder and keep them on crumble, they work great.

I couldn't get mine to eat pellets. I had to use up the bag by making it into mash. They're back on crumbles but with a pvc feeder there's very little billed out.

I switch over to pellets as soon as I can with a given batch, they just don't seem to go through as much of it. with crumble I felt like I was feeding the dirt.

I have found that they eat less because the pellets fill them up faster..

I have never had a problem switching to pellets when they are old enough & I don't mix, just throw it in when the other feed is done. Pellets are great for going through my hanging feeder, but some say when chickens fill up faster, they have more time to peck each other! YMMV
