Hi, I'm new here and to chickens. We have 3 BO that are about 20 weeks old. I have been feeding crumbles since we 1st got them at 3 days old. I have a hanging feeder that holds about 10 pounds of food. As the chickens eat the food, more falls into place. The problem is, when I change their water daily and check the food, there is just food dust/powder in the feeder. If I shake it, more big crumbles fall into the powdered food and they eat it like they've been waiting all day for food. Should I change to pellet food or will they eat the powered form just as well?

Hi and welcome to BYC - thanks for joining us. Why not try the pellet food (get a small bag) and see how it goes?

More generally, here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

Welcome to Backyardchickens.com aka BYC! :frow
We are glad you joined our flock.
My chickens prefer crumble feed over pellets. Fermenting the feed leaves no dusty waste.

@KikisGirls does fermented feed. It's extremely popular with a lot of folks--but not practical for me. I really don't understand the process as I've never tried it--but a lot of folks love the approach.
