Crushed oyster shell??

ok I crushed up some egg shells (about 18 eggs worth) onto a cookie sheet and put them in the oven at 350 and within 3 minutes they were starting to burn...I took them at at 5 minutes but they were slightly brown...are they supposed to get burnt?
Do I have to bake them or is the crushed eggshells fine without baking?

The baking is to kill any bacteria. It only take a minute or so to get them hot enough. Mine usually get a bit brown but the ladies don't seem to mind. LOL

i don't give my chickens oyster shell anymore, we free range them alot, and the shell were so hard you really had to smack them hard a couple of times to get them to crack.

I read somewhere that you have to heat the eggshells so that the calcium can be digested.

On another site I read that you have to bake them until they are brown and crunchy. I tried and found it a bit smelly (which wasn't very nice with my baked potato!)

But I do believe you can put them in the microwave for about 20 seconds...I'll be trying that next

I did the microwave thing at first but it would make zapping noises like as if there was metal in there. Started baking after that. lol
