Crying Chicks, please help

Temperature, food and water.
One of these things is off.
Observe if they avoid the heat source or huddle under it. Place the chick starter and water away from the heat source.
Two chicks are fine together. I dont think they are cheeping becUse they miss their friends. Were they peeping loudly in the feed store?
I also think your temp should be dropped, but if you watch the chicks they will tell you for sure.

So, I too thought that 98* was too hot, but if I lower it any more (to around 95* even) they huddle under the heat source. They always seem to be very close to the heat source, which is on one side of the brooder. I’m not sure why they like it so hot, but they nestle as close to the heat source as possible if I lower it any more, so I don’t think the temp is an issue.

Last night around 3:30 am I finally just left them in the brooder and went to bed. I could hear them crying from across the house but they eventually quieted down. Today I have found one small solution that calms them down so I don’t have to hold them:
I put them in a cardboard box with a reptile heater wrapped in a tea towel. As long as I have my hand over them like a mama hen they will trill and be happy. I have the box on my desk while I work. If I leave or put them back in the brooder they cry for me. I wonder if they actually have imprinted on me?

thank you all for taking the time to give advice. I will try all of your suggestions in turn and let you know if anything works

Is there not a way to set it up so they can be within sight of the others, but partitioned off enough to heal up? They are looking for the pack right? But maybe you are afraid of them being injured by the others?

Partition might work, or like jail cells next to each other. Maneuvering the heat lamp to hit both partitions for this might be tricky. But the other older ones might need less heat by now anyway.

It seems like chicks and chickens like to just tip stuff over and make messes so you may need to put some weight on the partition cage within a cage to keep them from messing with it.

Its hard to see what you've got, but maybe you can do a plastic milk crate with a brick on top (or something like that), with it upside down with them inside it next to the others, with their own food and water. They will be able to see and feel the others but hopefully not get bullied to death.

I'm not an expert.

Maybe someone else can tweak this a bit more, just to make sure I don't miss anything. And I wouldn't want it to get messed up and you blame me either.

We could consider this a hypothesis in the works.

so I would love to combine the two ‘flocks’ but the Salmon Favorelle is sick with an eye infection (has medicine, getting better). The vet told me to keep these two quarantined from the rest for three weeks, so that’s out
