Cuckoo Bluebar...

Oh, that's so nice! Well let me know how it goes and I will eventually post photos. Were the eggs white as the other reader stated?

I am one week out from hatching. I will post pics during and after the process. It is to be noted that, of the dozen I ordered, 11 are developing and, barring unforeseen complications, should hatch.

They are white eggs. I think this has been discussed as the CB being the result of a cross with a white egg layer as the maternal stock. A bird that hatches from a white egg can lay blue eggs.

I'm getting mine end of September but someone here said they will actually be white, but the resulting chicks, once grown, will lay blue eggs?

Right-- I asked about that when they arrived and was told: The female chicks inside the eggs will lay a blue egg, the male chicks will carry the blue egg gene. The egg color only reflects the genetics of the hen that laid the egg, not the genetics of the chick. The roosters for this cross (Cream Legbars) carry the blue egg gene, so you can be sure the chicks will lay nice large blue eggs, at a surprising rate!

so I asked what the ratio of male / female hatching numbers looked like. I hope a high rate of pullets!

Interesting and I did think it was a Cream Legbar cross because of the tuft on the head. Did they ever answer you on the male/female ratio?
