Cuckoo Bluebar...

Pics
So sorry you lost so many. My eggs arrive next week - I also have a Brinsea. But now I'm worried. I only ordered 6 eggs. Hopefully some will survive.

The remaining chicks appear to be healthy. Other chicks in the brooder are RIR, Red Leghorns, Malines and Silkies. All are doing well but these didn't seem very vigorous.

Such a shame. everyone is so excited to see these birds. If you figure out anything else about how to get them through the start up period please share.

Did you try anything special to get them to eat?
Thank you,
Maureen

My chicks get a cocktail in their water.

I have a 1 gallon waterer in the GQF brooder and it gets 1 TSP Poultry Cell, 1 Packet Chick Saver Electrolyte and 1 packet Chick Saver Probiotic.

Has worked wonders so far. White Faced Black Spanish, Lloyd Minor Blues and Cuckoo Bluebars are the least vigorous and most prone to death chicks I've had.

Thank you for this tip and I will be sure to add this. My eggs arrive sometime next week and I will be sure to post updates and photos.

Best of luck in your endeavors

Lost five of these guys. They just never started eating so I'm down to six and one of those looks awful. I should note that the brooder is full of chicks hatched the same day and this is the only variety that seems to have an issue. I would characterize them as weak chicks. Kind of like my White Faced Black Spanish.
That's really unfortunate. I don't have a ton of hatching experience, but barring my truly deformed chicks like obvious issues such as splayed leg etc. some of my weak chicks at hatch have turned out to be very strong birds. What do the more experienced hatchers think?

Did you get deformed chicks in your Cuckoo Bluebar hatch? How many out of the total batch of eggs you ordered were deformed? Just curious.

Sorry, I meant in general from hatching chicks at all. I haven't hatched any Bluebars. I just was commenting based on the little hatching experience I've had it doesn't necessarily mean they'll be bad birds. I would like to hatch some Bluebars though, I'm very curious. I guess we'll see what happens with those who are already hatching.

That's good to know. Sorry to misunderstand. I'm relieved. Mine should arrive Monday and I'm expecting poor, results based on what I'm reading. But will just try to do everything right and hope for the best.
