FWIW, it can help to familiarize yourself (even if it's just whipping out a smart phone while at the store) with basic breed characteristics so you can spot/avoid misidentifications. For example....you would have been able to note the lack of a head spot (indicating no barring/cuckoo genetics) and the yellow legs/feet (vs white of marans).

Interesting. I have one with a white spot, furry legs, barring and slate legs. I will take a picture and post that one. Maybe that one might be cuckoo. It seems to stand taller than the cochins.
 
UPDATE: They all have yellow legs so I guess they are cochins. The chickens that do have barring and grey or slate legs I was told were Dominques. I read online that they should have yellow legs too but then I saw images and they look similar to the ones that I currently have.
