I have 7 different breeds that are about 3 weeks old. The three cuckoo marans are quite a bit smaller and less feathered than the other breeds. Is this normal? I ordered pullets so they should all be female chicks.

My concern is that of the the chicks I ordered from the hatchery 5 were cuckoo marans. One baby chick was doa and she was a cuckoo maran. I then lost two others one Black Australorp and one Cuckoo Maran. The BA seemed to have been injured in shipment but I had no apparent reason for the loss of the the little Maran chick. I just assumed they had a rough ride during shipment. But now with the three remaining Cuckoo Maran chicks not developing as quickly I was wondering - Could I have some runts? Or maybe this is normal?

They are every bit as active and fiesty as the rest of the chicks.

I got 1 cuckoo maran day old pullet out of 26 assorted chicks from Meyer 3 weeks ago and she has been 1 of the larger, nosey, and aggressive chicks. She is always 1st in to line to see what I have and to peck my hand in the brooder. Sorry to hear about your trouble and loss.
