Cuckoo marans black and white stripes on beak? and is this a roo??

Yes, this is a dilemma we have all faced.
You can try posting in your local craigslist under "farm and garden". Perhaps at a local feed store as well.

I only see the one cockerel. Blue (grey) bird on the left with the red comb. :)
Yes that's my baby Roo haha. He is so funny and docile. Very scaredy cat like and not dominant or confident like you'd expect. He's been asserting himself with the other birds with the chest bumping which is funny. But he's the first to run if there's a noise or if my dogs get too close. What breed is he do think? I was thinking a marans but not black copper.

Haha I don't think I could do that! I got them for their eggs and have never done that before. This is my first flock and I'm very attached.... I have seen collars you can get for them do you know anything about that as an option?
If he doesn't attack you once he reaches 5 months old, then hold on to him tight and keep him forever. The collar thing is a tad controversial, so know that going into it ;)

Honestly, hens can be louder than some roosters so I never understood the noise bias :p but it is possible to end up with a fairly quiet cockerel that is well behaved. I have three roosters for my flock of 22 and love them all. A bit of a high ratio, but they all get along and are not too rough on the hens. My oldest is going on five though, so he doesn't do as much as the one year olds - I'm not expecting him to be around for many years longer, but who knows?

Ok thank you haha!! Yea we really don't wanna have to get rid of him. I'll do some more research on the collar, but my 6 year old just loves him and will always help me put them in the pens when I need to move them, she goes after the Roo first because he's her favorite and the hardest to catch because he starts running before anyone else. He's never tried to defend any of the chickens or get in the middle of them and us or the dogs when we get close. That's why I thought it was so weird that he turned out to be a Roo, he was the most calm out of all the chicks when they were brooding. Plus I have 2 ducks and they are in the pecking order at the top and have been since we got them. Maybe that's why he isn't acting like a normal Roo. They follow the ducks everywhere, if I get the ducks to follow me in, the chickens follow and it's so much easier to bring them in at night. Their coop isn't finished so they're in their tractor and run or freeranging during the day, then I put them in pens in my house at night.

You've still got time. Enjoy him now, but be wary and watchful around the 5 month mark. If your daughter is young, then be careful about him jumping up and scratching her face. It only takes one time for a roo to do real damage to a child's eyes. I wouldn't worry about her attachment to him. If he's good, it doesn't matter. If he's bad, she will be terrified and happy to see him go. Just be watchful.

Yes thanks so much. I also have a 2 year old and a 4 year old girl, none of them are scared of the birds yet so let's cross our fingers!
