I have a question regarding my cuckoo marans laying eggs.

On April 19 I purchased eight chicks, 3 cinnamon queens, 3 Sapphire, gems, and 2 cuckoo marans.

My cinnamin queens and Sapphire gems started laying eggs at 4/5 months. My cuckoo marans, possibly only one, finally starting laying at 7 months. Three weeks later no more cuckoo marans eggs. Still today my cockoo marans are not laying. Yes, they are both hens. Everyone else is but not those two. Can anyone give me a reason why ?

I do live in Southern California, so Weather really is not an issue.

Some pullets just mature faster than others. This year, I hatched 5 girls, they are all cousins or half siblings. 2 laid eggs all winter, 2 started laying in the fall and stopped for the winter (I think one of these just laid an egg today) and 1 has yet to start laying - but I think she is close. Hopefully your girl starts laying soon🤞

It's not weather (other than in extremely hot summers); it's amount of daylight hours. Even SoCal chickens can take a break on either side of winter solstice, warm or not, if their pineal glands aren't getting enough of a light stimulus. Maybe your cuckoo marans just need more light than the rest?

I can't really tell from your post how old they are now, and what date one or both started laying. (in other words, were they day-old chicks when you got them or 6-week pullets, etc.) As nuthatched wrote, you can do a visual check of their vents to see if they're pink and moist, which they would be if they're laying.

Do they have access to a yard, free-ranging, etc.? If only a run, is it large with interesting nooks and crannies where they might be laying?
