Where did cuckoo silkies originate? Are they a new bird or have they been around for a long time?

A number of people have created them over the years. I would assume from different crosses. Mine came from barred rocks, but there have probably been ones from cochins or other breeds.

Id love to create my own. Also the chocolate variety. Seems that nobody will tell you how to start them. I know about cross breeding but what chickens do you cross to start them? Id like to start/perfect my own line. Im not worried about comb colors. I dont show birds.
