Yeah, the ones I have been slicing up and giving them are the ones that are too big for canning and have gone just a tad bit ripe.

And cukes assist in fighting dehydration in excessively hot weather. Mine are sharing noisily as I write.

I had so many cukes in my garden last year, it would be a daily thing that they would get some. They just loved them, and it doesn't hurt them a bit. They don't seem to like the peels though, I just halved mine lengthwise and tossed them out there....usually used the tin siding on the barn as my 'knife'
