Culture Shock

When I would go to order a glass of sweet tea in NE or WY people looked at me like I was strange. In the south, most tea is sweet.. everywhere else.. you get tea and your choice of sweetner on the side.. ay-ay-ay. They thought I was nuts for asking for tea that was already sweetened

Well now, I have to think more about the food question, but just off the top of my head I'd say this area just doesn't have really good smoked sausage. That stuff you buy in a big box grocery store isn't the same as what I used to be able to get in southeastern PA. When I visit the area I stock up on it!

We call that stuffed cabbage or Golumpki. My mom mixes ground beef and rice with a little bit of salt and pepper and wraps that in cabbage, then cooks it is spaghetti sauce (either homemade or bought) in the oven. That recipe was passed down from my great grandmom who came from Ukraine. It is very simple, but really good.

I'm in eastern PA (near the NJ boarder) and they don't talk like that around here.

Oh good, I was wondering if I wasn't getting out enough.

We call it stuffed cabbage, too.

Also, what some people described as goulash is what we call beefaroni.

I was somewhere in NY state...by the way, is it just my area that actually refers to New York as New York state? Anyway, we stopped at some restaurant and I ordered a chicken sandwich that was supposedly a "buffalo chicken sandwich" which in my mind, is covered in hot sauce. This thing was covered in what tasted like bbq sauce and hot sauce combined....it was sweet and I was disappointed.
