So I'm a bit curious...what would a cross between a peking and a gray runner look like? The drake is the gray runner. The others are pekings. (There is a male peking but he hasn't figured out the birds and the bees yet.)

Do you think purposely crossing breeds is a good strategy?

either a pekin (little smaller) with runner colors, a runner that has lots of extra white. or it could take after just one of the parengs

The gene which results in white is a recessive trait which causes no color to be added. Assuming the gray runner does not have a white parent or carry the white allele (which I suppose it could be), then you would not have any white offspring. The Pekin could be hiding many colors which are not seen. Many people seem to get black Swedish marked ducklings from Peking crosses so that would seem a possibility. If your Peking is not hiding the black allele which results in those Black Swedish type markings, I would think you would get wild type or gray ducklings as most of those genes are dominant. Still, I believe the cross you are suggesting could have many hidden recessive traits and result in some surprises.

Thanks.
You are pretty smart too.
