Curious 1st time chicken owner

Where do you see the fluffy cheeks?

Look at the first three pics posted. Some of the others don't have beards yet, but that's not conclusive. I've had several EEs from different sources that didn't get their beards until they had their moult. The hen below was one I bred myself, and didn't get her beard until she was almost 18 weeks old. For a while I thought I must have gotten a chick mixed up since she had yellow legs, too. That's the thing with mutts, you never know what you're going to get.

Im just not quite used to seeing them w/o beards at that age.
Your confusion is understandable. Usually an EE's sold from hatcheries will have a beard and comb, but not always as they are basically mutts.

It was the green legs, pea comb, typical EE colors, and having been sold as "Ameraucanas" that were the tips offs these would be EE's.

EE's can be yellow legged, single combed, and just about any color because technically they are a mixed breed with some Ameraucana blood back down the line...sometimes not much of it shows up.

Call me crazy, but I sit with the chicks each night. Observing the combs, it appears the little brown chick that was the 3 first photos does have the 3 rows, the black and white chick with the salmon color on the back and wings definitely has 3 rows on the comb and the other black and white chick appears to have 3 rows. I have one other chick that is a dark brown and it appears to have 3 rows on the comb also. So, I am guessing of the 9 EE's I got, 4 of them are roosters. I had ordered 6 females and 1 male and the hatchery sent me 9 EE's. The more I think about it, having eggs that would be blue, green or pink would be even better than just having blue eggs. So, I am pretty happy with them being my first chicks.

It appears the Silver-laced Wyandottes are easier to tell if they are roosters or hens. Here again this is my first time to have this breed as chicks. If I am correct, what I think are roosters, their combs are bigger, have turned bright red and I think I can even see and feel spurs on the roosters. So, I am thinking of the 10 females and 1 male I ordered and actually getting 13 Silver-laced Wyandottes, 3 of them are roosters. But, I do have some that the comb looks bigger than some that have the single comb but the comb is a pink color.

I will have to say I am really enjoying these chicks. They all seem curious, I have some that love to be petted and am even lucky enough to have some that will crawl up in my lap and go to sleep while I am petting them.
