So I was just thinking back to when I had my big flock up north, and was wondering if anyone else had ever had issues with Fisher Cats? (The big weasels). I'm curious if they're a problem for anyone. I used to have one that would frequent the chicken yard but could never get in to actually get the chickens. I saw him about 3-4 times before he left for good. I actually stood out there one night pretty late just to catch a glimpse of it! Just wondering and looking for anyone elses stories.

The ones around here don't really like people. The only problem I've had was a young one, that the dogs killed (nearly two feet, nose to tail, I think? It was a while back.) A neighbour reported that the fisher was probably from a litter near his property. The mother fisher had killed some of his ducks? (He was angry about them for some reason, and I think that was it) I've never seen another.

I am in Maryland and we have them around. I made deer lollypops where you boil molassas, sugar and water to pour in a cup with a stick to set out to attract deer. The deer hardly touched it but we could catch fishers standing up and licking them that were about 2' off the ground. That was the most interesting thing on the game cameras that year. They are like a huge mink and would be hell on chickens if they could get in the coop.

All the hunting and being in the woods and I have never seen a live one. I have seen mink and river otters though.

Fishers are a vicious animal that has killed some of my chickens when i forgot to close the coop door one night, had a picture on a game camera trying to climb the fence

They are common in the area I live but tend to stay away from inhabited areas. However, they will come if food is available.

Several years ago I cleaned out my fridge and had several jars of pickles that were well beyond their good by date. One evening I emptied the jars onto the ground outside the back of the house intending to go back and clean up. That night my cat was restless and at the back door. I stepped out and two Fishers were busily doing my cleanup for me, they paused and looked back at me (6 feet maybe), snarled and carried on eating. Next morning all the pickles were gone. They displayed no fear whatsoever and were big enough to send me back into the house. They do not look like cats however have a rounded head that may mimic a cat's appearance; my cat wanted nothing to do with them and re-entered the house ahead of me.
