I can see movement under the membrane. What do I do?! There is no blood. The small red mark is from where I marked the egg.

The chick is still moving 😭😭

I’m running so late for work but tried to fill the crack with candle wax and put it back under the hen. I don’t have an incubator. Please say a prayer or send good wishes as this egg belongs to a sweet hen that was killed in a bear attack three days ago.

I wish you luck. You'll have to help it hatch probably, that's a lot of wax. Praying it does ok!
It was so much harder than I thought it would be to put the wax on. At its melting point it was around 110-120 degrees and with so much membrane exposed I didn’t want to hurt the chick with hot wax. I tried beeswax but it was much too hot at its melting point. I tried dipping my finger in the candle to smear it but it starts hardening almost immediately. I hope this works. I won’t be home much so I won’t be able to offer a whole lot in the way of help unless it’s later in the evening, and that’s assuming the mom doesn’t crush the chick. I tried to surround that egg with the other eggs and put more pine shavings in the box

I lost two hens and a rooster on Saturday and at least one of these eggs belongs to one of those hens so I was really counting on these babies 😭

You did the best you could. I hope it does ok. Let me know if anything happens! do you have any one at home who can check on it throughout the day?

There’s no one who can check. It’s due to either hatch tomorrow night or into Friday. I will spend all day worrying over this poor baby. I am hoping that the wax will provide enough structure for the egg to not be crushed by mom.

I hope it does ok! How long until you get home?
