Curious minds wanna know~ or mine, LOL- How many peafowl do you own?

How many peafowl do you own at this very moment? and are you a breeder? or not??
how many did you think you were gonna have? and how many do you have now?

My curiosity so wants to know

For instance I wanted a month or so ago.. One peacock!!, then thought.. oh my goodness I have to give it a mate so that would put me at two..

then thought, wow~ I dont want to wait for them to be 3 years to see that gorgeous display. Let me get another, oh heck if I am getting another let me just order 3 more. So my thought of just one peacock... last month- turned into 4 peafowl

Two males and two females, and Nope I am not breeder and really dont plan on breeding. But, if they breed .... I am looking forward to keeping two more/ another male and female- and I want one all white male, and whatever the sweetest female ends up being..hehehe

So dish..... what about you???

First let me say that in my opinion (coming from a mammal aspect here) if you have a male + female together and produce offspring that means you are a breeder.


So with that said:

I started out with a pair of India blue pied yearlings last spring. I was content with just those two. Fall brought me to looking into the "lancaster farmer" and browsing through all the ads of various animals. I found a breeder advertising some "rare" colors who was downsizing due to health issues. Called him with all intentions of getting a pair of midnight yearlings he had for sale. Ended up bringing home a BS midnight breeding quad. They were penned next to a Bronze breeding quad, that I really wanted to add as well... but these were my fiances birds as he always wanted peafowl..so I let him get his midnights he wanted.

So I am now at 6 peafowl. I am itching to get my hands on a Bronze trio, and grab another pied or white peahen to put with my pied pair.


As I have males and females together, that will eventually produce offspring I consider myself a 'breeder". However, I don't consider myself a professional breeder, merely a very small "hobby" breeder who may have chicks for sale from time to time.

Until last year we had around 70 breeder Peafowl we have sold almost all our breeders and only have 20 breeders left with a few eggs in the incubator.

We have 15 adults in 5 pens of five different colors. I do not consider us breeders but more hobbyists. If I sell babies or eggs it is only to pay for expenses. I think of a breeder as someone who makes a living o profit from their birds.

We have two pair, the girls are IB split white & the boys are bronze and silver pied. They aren't old enough to breed yet so can't say we are breeders, altho next year maybe we will be.

I have 5 peafowl now. 3 adult peahens and 2 yearlings which I think are a male and female. They are fun to watch and hopefully when they are old enough I'll get a few more babies. I'm looking around town for a mature male but no luck yet. Such pretty birds. I get distracted and just stand watching them every time I go by the pen. On a trip to the fair my son saw a golden pheasant and he decided that he HAS to have one to show in 4H so now we have 5 tiny pheasant chicks. They are a pair of Chinese ringnecks and 3 silver pheasants 2 girls and a boy. We will be getting some goldens after the eggs hatch at the breeders. Can't wait! I think I'm addicted to fowls
