just what is the diferance between a barred rock/old english, Cuckoo Maran, domenique, and any other species of chicken that may happen to look like a zebra?

this has been driveing me crazy just to know the basic key diferances.

Barred is sharply defined colour separation--think of using a marker & a straight edge. Cuckoo is blurry colour separation--think of a freehand crayon.

Genetically the barring has a slow feathering gene vs cuckoo's fast feathering.

Plymouth rocks have a single comb; dominiques have a rose comb. Plymouth rocks have yellow skin and lay a medium brown egg. Marans have pink.white skin and lay a very dark brown egg.

Barred Plymouth Rocks:
Yellow beaks, yellow legs, single comb.

Barred Old English:
Single comb, white beaks, white legs.

Cuckoo Maran:
White legs, similar to a production Barred Plymouth Rock, single comb. May or may not have feathering down their legs.

Dominique:
Rose comb, yellow legs, yellow beak.

That looks like a Barred Rock to me.

Here is a Cuckoo Marans. The feather pattern is cloudy-looking, not nearly as distinct:
