Hi guys! Looking for a little help as I’ve never had any issues with my hatching chicks (though I’m still pretty new at this). Is this normal? The rest of their toes are straight and not curled but I’m not sure about the actual placement of these toes.

Can you get a clearer picture once it's out of the incubator? Looks like it has an extra toe? What breed is the chick?

It’s exactly what it looks like! An extra toe, but also one of the toes seems to be completely misplaced. Let me try and get a better picture. I’m really not sure the breed as it came from a random mix a friend gave me.

Some breeds do have extra toes, so that may be normal based on it's parentage. Faverolles and silkies are probably the most common. Even if it's a mix with one of those, it could get the extra toes. They are often higher than the other toes and will point more upward and not touch the ground. So it may be perfectly normal.

Thank you! It’s very possible it’s mixed with a silkie as they have some. It did come from a larger egg, but they have silkie roosters- so could be a mix! Just wanted to help it the best I could if need be.
