Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Okay guys I saw "SOUTHPAW" the boxing flick with Jake Gyllenhaal ( or some similar name). The critics all said the performances were terrific BUT, the story was the usual boxing comeback story. I should have believed them.

It was a good enough movie - my brother gave it 3.5 stars (out of 4) I give it 3 stars. But, I couldn't help being disappointed that the critics were right - I knew what would happen before it did (without spoilers) which did diminish my enjoyment. I went to see this hoping it would wipe out the bad taste left from Jake's "Nightcrawler" movie. But some of his wild and scary ,crazy face & actions popped up here too. Bummer for me.

I keep longing for the Jake that 'owned' "The Source Code," and "Prisoners." Maybe he was afraid he would be typecast as the down to earth - good guy. Would that be so bad?

BTW Forest Whitager was EXCELLENT

Next up for me is Rogue Nation - yet another Mission Impossible movie - but, they've never let me down. Despite his age & all Tom Cruise is great in action movies.

The Martian- with Matt Damon has been changed from Thanksgiving week to early Oct. Smart thinking otherwise it would have opened against Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 2 (the END)

They claim he DID the stunt where he is hanging off the side of the airplane. He said that was scarier than climbing out the tallest building in Dubui (Ghost Protocol).

Jeremy Renner is back for this movie.

It was amazing seeing him on the side of the Burj Kalifa. That was the highlight of the movie.

We watched Blade Runner last night.
It was the final cut version so it was a bit different than I remembered, but for an almost 40 year old move it still works as a futuristic movie, it does not look like it was made with 40 year old special effects.
It is supposed to be set in 2017, and we still don't have flying cars, so they got that wrong.

Can I do TV shows? I don't really watch many "movies," so I'll just do a TV show.

Several days ago I started watching Wayward Pines, and it is soooo good! It's full of action and mystery, it's unpredictable! It kinda reminds me of The Maze Runner. Anyways, it's a great show, especially if you like dystopian shows. There hardly is anything inappropriate and very little swearing compared to most TV shows. So, I definitely recommend this!
