Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Peep Show thank you kindly x 2, you do excellent reviews, I think you have a real future in doing so. Probably not here but, in regular life like a city newspaper, honestly.

You could submit some of your reviews here as your resume'.

I give you 4 stars out of 4.

SAN ANDREAS
Sometimes you just have to view an action-packed special effects movie on the big screen...and this is one of them. I had been lobbying my Monday Dollar Matinee movie group to go see it, but they're a bunch of elderly ladies who usually opt for a sappy teen angst movie, Helen Mirren's latest or -- ugh -- anything by Nicholas Sparks. During my lobbying I heard such pithy comments as "Oh, I don't want to be scared" or "I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and it would shatter my memory." Really? I was in Oakland during Loma Prieta and almost had a 3-story brick chimney collapse on me, BUT I WANNA SEE THIS FILM! So I grabbed my hubby on Labor Day and off we went as I couldn't predict when it will exit the theaters.

The special effects are spectacular, and anyone familiar with Los Angeles, Hoover Dam or San Francisco will enjoy picking out familiar ill-fated landmarks. My favorite bit in the movie was a split-second (literally one second of screen time) where a BART train unearthed in the background. Some things are not quite accurate and if you think on it too hard pretty unplausible, but that's cinematic license. Bakersfield, alas, got no real landmark tribute, just a bunch of white trash looters.

Anyway, the dialogue is simple and I doubt they'll ever close-caption this film because everyone is pretty much shouting their lines, so lip reading is easy. The plot is pretty simple, too. "The Rock" -- of course -- gets to save the day multiple times...not a big surprise as they even give him a hero-image career.

I give it two thumbs up for the special effects. And, ladies (if you're reading this) it is not a scary movie. Grab some popcorn and enjoy.
I was wondering about this one! Thanks for reviewing. I love love love action films(still love the Die Hard franchise even though they've gotten cheesy), but I have recently become somewhat skeptical of all the CGI special effects being too over the top. Unless of course, they're really well done. I know nothing of that region but I have friends who live out there and they tell me stuff, so I don't think it will scare me. LOL I do however think it will keep me on the edge of my seat so I may have to go check it out. I will have to go alone, though. MY DH of 16 years will literally pick apart every detail that isn't true to reality, especially anything involving crime stories and cops. Speaking of such topics, Black Mass is one that is high on my radar, right now. I am actually dying for Friday to come so I can go see it asap. If anyone gets to the theater to see it before I do, please please leave your review! I think the only other movie I wanted to see that bad was American Sniper. I read the book, but still have yet to see it.

Has anybody seen Jurassic World? I saw it in theaters and it was amazing! The CGI was great and it was very entertaining.

Dying to see that one. The DH has no idea why. I try to tell him how rad the original was, but he has never seen any of the Jurassic films! Can you believe it? One day, I am determined to get him to sit and watch those and of course the Star Wars franchise, too. He's the only person I know, who's never seen a Star Wars film.
Anyone planning on going to see The Man From Uncle this weekend? I see it's getting 98% fresh from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

Is that what those percentages mean?!!!

I seriously didn't know specifically what the %s meant. I just assumed if the number was high it was a good thing. Glad that little mystery has been cleared up.

My brother will  he's been watching NCIS since it started.   I gave up on it when Ziva left.

Yeah, I was very sad when Ziva left, but I still love and watch the show. Bishop is alright, but she's definitely no replacement for her. I still (foolishly) hope that Ziva will return one day.
