Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Today we saw "Hustlers". If you are offended by nudity - male/female -, and profanity this is one for you to miss. At best it gets a 2.5 even with the great scenery. I find Jennifer Lopez to be quite talented and attractive. 2.5 from the Princess also.

A couple of nights ago, i went to see Downton Abbey. I loved the series and saw it through a few times with my Aunty who also loved it. I was ready to love the movie, but I'm sorry to say it wasn't good :( it was very pretty, but the writing was awful. I thought Cousin Isabel was true to character and so was Robert Crawley, but the other characters were very one-dimensional.

There was one overarching plot, very lightly treated, and many other little plots. Inevitably, the action was spread very thin. I felt like it was a whole series of plots squeezed into a couple of hours. Highclere itself was strongly featured and everything was very beautiful. Shame about the writing.

No chickens spotted.

Two stars. One of the prettiness and one for the nostalgia.

One of my favorite movies is Gosford Park. I just found out from a friend that it was the inspiration for Downton Abbey. I liked the first season of DA okay but tuned out during the war. I’ll see the movie when it streams.

We saw Maleficent: Mistress of Evil yesterday. I did not care for the first one but my wife loved it. To me Maleficent is the character from Sleeping Beauty, terrifying and evil. In the first movie they remake her from evil to misunderstood. Didn't like it. Her name is Maleficent, not Niceficent for crying out loud.

I hoped with the "mistress of evil" tag she might turn bad in this version. Alas it was not to be. Once I gave up on that, the movie was fine. Michelle Pfeiffer's performance as the new queen was quite fun. Overall I give it 3/5.

Thank you for your comments Bob. I can't remember the last movie I went to but, it was not great.

Wanted to see Zombieland 2 but my driver (brother) refused . The first one I saw years ago and it was funny and brainless and I didn't care. Also the show used to have an early start like 9 or 10 am and in decent weather I used to walk the 11 miles round trip.

Now the movies start later and wouldn't want to walk home with rush hour traffic. Our senior bus has last pick up at 2:30 pm so no use to me.

Nov 15 two good movies are supposed to open. "Ferrari vs Ford with Christopher Bale & Matt Damon - looks good, and another (can't recall title) with Helen Mirren and Ian McKellan - something with "Liars" in the title. Forgive me for I am old and my memory is slow.

In exchange for going to Maleficent, my wife agreed to go see The Joker. I'll post on that too if it ever comes to be. We don't go like we used to. I prefer chicken TV now.

I tried searching so I didn’t repeat the topic but didn’t find it. Forgive me if it’s been covered but has anyone else seen the documentary “For the Birds”? I am obsessed by it right now. It is the story of a woman who is a poultry hoarder and the intervention of the local animal control and local do-dogooders. The woman is Kathy Murphy of Wawarsing, N.Y. There was national press coverage of her case. I give it a 5/5. It is not your usual coverage of hoarding.

We just watched Aladdin, its was my favorite movie as a child. I watched it at my parents with my boys when we had a sleepover there. My dad was saying it would be awful... He watched it 3 times after we watched it with them :gig

Also watched Nightmare Before Christmas... It's my all time fave! I know every word.
