Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Hey I just replied to another post of yours over in the "what books are we reading" thread! I was looking forward to it because I thought there could be some really cool fight scenes and other scenes that would be great in live action, but I also heard that they would be introducing new characters and villains. For live action remakes I'm ok with them changing things, but I hope they stick to the original feeling and characterization for the remaining and original characters.
They are not. They're changing it to make it "more culturally aware". A lot of the songs are either nonexistant or instrumental only. I'm expecting it to be a huge disappointment. I'm so done with the "live action" remakes. Just because you want to make more money on old ideas without coming up with any new material doesn't mean you have to bend my childhood over backward and spank it.

What, exactly, does "culturally aware" mean?

That's their terminology; not mine. I think it means: "Not racist".

"Cultural nuance was clearly not a priority of the 1998 film, leaving many Chinese folks who were starving for representation disappointed and offended. "

That whole sentence is just confusing. "Chinese folks starving for representation"? What does that even mean? Are they going to add black chinese people? White Chinese people? Homosexual Chinese people? The film takes place during the Qin Dynasty in 318 B.C. I'm not sure what is not filled with cultural nuance. Disney just wants to appeal to every demographic which is not really possible. There's a reason you do market research and test audiences.

It's first review on IMDB:
"If u watched disney original version, dont watch this movie. It will ruin ur childhood memory"

Harsh but probably right. Lately with Disney I've been noticing the "strong female character"representation. That's all well and good. Sometimes I even get a real kick out of it. However it does not personally empower ME as a woman just because you put in a "strong female character". In all honesty I prefer it in my kitchen where I know how everything works. It empowers me to tell my SO to get out of it because he has no idea what he is doing. I'm finding more and more that tv shows and movies trying to make "everyone happy"is just frustrating and annoying.

I agree. I am looking forward to it because I didn't like the animated version much, and I think this looks good. As long as they don't mess it up too much, the witch might be cutting it close.

I loved the animated version which is why I'm worried I won't like it. I liked the songs, the animation and the premise. You cant call it the same movie if you're just gonna do your own thing. Perhaps I just should...

...think of instead....

...a girl worth fighting for! I want her paler than the moon; with eyes that shine like stars. My girl will marvel at my strength, adore my battle scars. I couldnt care lest what she wear or what she looks like...it all depends on what she cooks like. Beef...pork...chicken...mmmmm.

All from memory. I'm such a dork

Didn't you know? Dorks are cool these days.

:barnie I would so like to have a 'date' with the Princess. Our dates now take the form of a daily walk at the park. County and state parks in NJ have been shut down, but so far our township park is open, and folks are following the guidelines.

My city's parks have the playgrounds cordoned off with orange plastic and signs.

Same here, and folks are abiding by the rules. In some of the larger parks, folks were continuing to play basketball and gather in large groups. You can't cure stupid.
