WOW, thanks Sour. My brother and I are going to see that tomorrow. I thought he was a fantastic actor and very upset by his passing. The world really got cheated when he died.

Not the stereotypical, handsome leading man, but what a talent he was. We both became totally immersed in the movie, and sat there for a period of time after the ending. Can't wait to see what you think of this film.

Sour ditto, my brother and I both rate "A Most Wanted Man," FOUR stars.

I couldn't keep my eyes off of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, his eyes and expression gave away even more than his physical acting. He was a craftsman to the max. I wonder if a deal with the devil would bring him back. He died much too soon.

There is a very brief moment in the movie that I think men overlook but, not women. He wants to get a good look at someone without being obvious. He grabs his assistant in the guise of kissing her, turns her around, so he can observe.

The kiss never happens but, when they part the look on his assistants face tells all, the surprise, the flicker of excitement(thinking he meant to kiss her) , the disappointment and the pain of unrequited love. I still hurt for her. My brother didn't even notice.

It should have been called "A Most Wanted Movie," we certainly needed and deserved a movie of this caliber. I am surprised it showed so early in the year, definitely an OSCAR WORTHY entry which may be forgotten by then.

deedee, glad that you enjoyed it, but not surprised. Our taste in movies are very similar - I did not miss the moment - Sour is after all a people watcher.

I'm going to have to follow this thread to pick up some good movie recommendations. Reading the past few pages you guys seem to have a pretty good taste in movies (although that seems to be quite a subjective thing, I'm told that when a dog was asked if he finds cleaning his underside disgusting, he replied "It's a question of taste"). I've been doing reruns lately, if those are allowed in this thread I give Forrest Gump 5 stars and Saving Mr. Banks 4 stars. I'll try to watch something a bit more recent next.

I'd give Saving Mr. Banks 4 stars as well. I really liked Tom Hanks as Mr. Disney. I was especially amused by the clash of old english culture with hollywood. Unfortunately, I had hoped it would have been a bit more entertaining for children. I should have looked more closely before lining the children up in front of it. At least the wife and I enjoyed it. I could watch it again.

Just watched Noah last night. It left me flat. I did not dislike the movie. I kind of thought it might move me a bit, but no such luck. Maybe that is where I went wrong. The movie entertains, but I had hoped it would be a bit more thought provoking.

I watched the book thief a few weeks ago. I thought it was all right, the actors fulfilled their roles pretty good and the plot was good. The narration was just weird my family thought. The ending was not great. I don't want an ending full of butterflies and rainbows but i thought the ending was just bad. Also, if you catch it at the end they say how old she was when she died (i know this isn't a true story) but if she was really that age she wouldn't die until like 2018 lol. Even though it had some faults i would probably still recommend it.

Oh, one I enjoyed was The Monuments Men. I like the chemistry between Matt and George. I've always liked John Goodman as well when all the humor isn't drawn from the fact that he enjoys a good meal. It wasn't the most serious way to approach the subject, but I'd still give it almost 4 stars. 3.9.

"Boyhood" - the growth of a boy, a family, the story of life. An interesting movie (filmed over a 12 year period) chronicling the experiences/life of a boy and his family. A bit long and tedious at times for me (but so is life) - an interesting commentary on life experiences. I enjoyed and recommend it, but am having troubles giving it a 'rating'.. Acting is good with Ethan Hawke as the father giving a great performance. There is one scene where he as the father has the 'sex talk' with his kids - brought back memories.

Saw 'Boyhood' with some other Linklater loving friends and enjoyed it even more than I thought I would. It was neat seeing some music venues and cafés we frequent show up in the film too.
