Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

So far "Boyhood," is only at a distant theatre and my brother doesn't want to see it. I think the length especially puts him "off." It is very hard for both of us to be seated that long.
Unless /until the local show gets it, I will have to pass for now.

Monday I am going to the local show for "Guardians of the Galaxy," that has not been on my list. People tell me it is very funny so hoping it will ease my "crabbiness," at missing the other.

PS does anyone know if the Linklater involved in Boyhood, is a relative of Art Linklater from the olden days. Art had a TV segment called "Kids say the darndest things," and they certainly did.

Forgot about my review for "Guardians of the Galaxy," that I saw Monday. They hyped it as being very funny and fun to watch. I tend to take some movies too seriously and I did with this one.

I didn't find it to be particuliarly funny BUT, I liked the way they all bonded as a team of misfits(who really aren't). To me it was a buddy film and I enjoyed that very much, especially when one of the mistfits would prove he,she or it, definitely wasn't. After taking in an estimated $ 94 million in the first weekend - a sequel is in the making. I know I will want to see that if the same characters remain

At first glance of the trailers, I thought it was such a lame idea for a movie. I mean it has a talking tree of all things, and a heavily weaponized raccoon.. Then I recalled the talking and walking trees - the ents, in Lord of the Rings and decided to cut the movie some slack.

By the end of the movie, the tree was my favorite actor, and it was cgi - take that any way you want. There were many young children in the theatre as well as the grandparents, and assorted oldies like me. I think it may have been over the head of some young'uns but, none acted bored or frightened.

True to Marvel comic based movies, if you stay for the end of the credits, you get a bonus scene.

I really liked this movie.

I can't wait to see Guardians of the Galaxy. Thanks for the review.

I just took in The Amazing Spiderman 2 last night. In my book there was too much doubling back on the storyline which made what was happening lose credibility (within the confines of the fantasy). The action was boilerplate spiderman, so that isn't really a complaint. However, the movie spent a tedious amount of time laying the groundwork for future installments and not enough time giving me my money's worth of #2. On the upside, this series is still better (in my opinion) than the toby mcguire series. It is darker and less campy.

I will watch it again, just to be sure I didn't miss anything. Might as well play along and get the foundation built properly to receive the next installment.

I just saw Guardians of the Galaxy and LOVED it.
I left the theater amazed by the imaginations that some people must possess in order to create something like this...How the heck do people come up with this stuff?

I also really liked the talking tree.

Thanks Pysanki - we both have excellent taste in movies .-

Most people consider me strange - because I can love individual films from different genres. One bus driver only watches suspense, spy type movies. I told him "A Man most Wanted." was great. He won't take my word for it because I have "weird taste in movies." Yet, he still asks for recommendations. Go figure....

I wanted to duck in here (lurker, first time caller) to pay tribute to the beloved Robin Williams. Gone too soon. What was your favorite Robin Williams movie?
