Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

I watched the whole Firefly series on Netflix last yr. They didn't stream the Serenity movie, wife wouldn't let me rent it, 'we don't rent off Netflix' grrr... she wouldn't even buy it for me for Christmas...
I'm so happy!!! Netflix just added it!!! Yeah!!!
Maybe someday I'll get to watch Farscape peacekeeper wars movie, she won't let me rent that one either...

My wife and I loved both the Firefly show and the Serenity movie.

Firefly and Serenity were both purchases for us. Didn't want to be dependent on Netflix to watch them.

My Sienna mini van has a Serenity sticker, one that says "Everything's shiny, not to fret" and " I aim to misbehave". Along with a zombie stick family including a dog eating a dismembered head. Gas station attendants love me

Bought the popcorn box for $1. Got the offer coupon and rented the RedBox Blu-Ray for a whopping $.54, which means they deducted $1.61 off the regular rental price. I came out $.61 ahead! Yep, being paid to eat the popcorn!

Rented "Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse" Will review it tomorrow.

Just popping in quick and off to watch Serenity. Just remembered, Any X-Files fans out there? NEW episodes start tomorrow 10pm on FOX. I was never big into them, but seen some episodes, I will probably watch this one.

Today I saw  "Sicario."  which  is about the Mexican drug cartel  and plainly shows that the bad and good guys are very hard to differentiate. Very good movie, very good performers.   Brother and I both give it  3.5 stars

Just watched it last night, wondered if anyone here had seen it. I have to agree, it was very good!

I thought I had written about this one, but in review I must've posted somewhere else.

I had to wait for the DVD to see it as my group of movie ladies voted for "The Intern" instead.... They always go for the feel-good stuff, and just as well because I don't think many of them would've liked this movie or would've had the stomach for it. "Sicario" is dirty and gritty and leaves you wanting a stiff drink and a long soapy disinfecting shower after viewing. Emily Blunt is really extraordinary in her PTSD-beyond-care performance. There was Oscar buzz for Benecio del Toro, but I didn't see a whole range of emotion in his acting. Josh Brolin was rather smug and smarmy throughout, but it suited his character well...although no big surprise about the who's-who ending.

The film is suppposedly set in Juarez and El Paso, but in reality was filmed in TX and NM... (I read the Director's Notes because part was filmed in my hometown locale, the Village of Corrales, and I just couldn't place which place it could be...certainly not the Motel 1! It ended up being the cartel kingpin's estate) I found it interesting that they spent only about 2 hours filming in Juarez, mainly because it was that dangerous.

I agree it was a good movie (and even the soundtrack was ingenious in its dissonance), but definitely not for the faint of heart. This is a gird-your-loins-for-the-battering-ride film, no doubt about it.

...BUT if you want a fun-yet-gory movie, try out "Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse" (Rated R-17 due to naughty bits, language and, well, lots of splatter)

This movie has some wonderful lines and the trampoline scene had both DH and I in shrieks (in a "this is SO wrong it's funny" way). This is a light-hearted comedy take on zombie invasions with the high school dork scouts ending up being the improvisational savior heroes. My only real criticism is that the zombies moved really fast and were good sprinters... I'd have been a brain feast for sure.
