Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Thank you for this cause I had some confusion. But what does the horny little drunk teen that likes the sister represent?
Good question! I think he is a casualty of the conflict-- Injured by it since He had something wrong mentally, that and what the policeman(his father) did to him. (trying not to give out much spoilers).

The Whale

Well, one can see why the Oscar awards went to Brenan Fraser and for Best Makeup. This movie stayed with me many days after viewing it. I thought it extremely well-crafted (filmed in one room because, well, a 600-lb man doesn't move around much and, yes, based off a play by the same name, so an easy set) with the storyline linking all the dynamic but flawed individuals together tangentially. Many, many metaphors throughout. Not one to watch if you're looking for humor, but definitely a deep one for human pathos. I won't watch it again because of the deep visceral impact, but I will be thinking about this one for a long, long time.

Watch this one for the art of the movie.

A Man Called Otto

There's a little bit of Otto in all of us. We rally for rules and regulations to keep things orderly and fair. But life isn't fair. And in this film the universe has a dark sense of humor.
In this film Tom Hanks' character -- Otto -- is dealt several unkind blows and he is relentless in his quest to seek regimen before deciding "WTH." But his best laid plans keep getting foiled by his well-meaning and curious neighbors. Truly (figuratively and literally) gallows humor in this one, so steady yourself if you've dealt with suicide in the past. (Just a warning.)

If you're a Tom Hanks fan, you'll enjoy this as it is one of his more dramatic roles laced with irony.

The Old Way

Ahh, Nic Cage. This is his first foray into the western genre and it delivers. Many nuances of past films as, well, most stories of a western theme have already been told. Essences of "True Grit" in this one. Kind of campy in the beginning. Enjoyable, but a bit heavy on the blood, bullets and bad guys.

Have you seen the Swedish original movie called "A Man Called Ove"? They are both based on the same book.

I liked the Swedish Movie.

Okay. Enough of the heavy stuff. Time for some camp.
Has anyone seen "Cocaine Bear"?
No. Honestly it looks too...stupid. still wanting to see m3gan. We don't go to the movies because it's too expensive. Plus when a movie is 3 hours long I have to take a pee break. We rent them for free on dvd from the library and pause all we want

We (DH & I) stopped theater-going just for that reason. (Somebody has a bladder the size of a peanut.) So a lot of DVD and streaming for films. Not a problem when out with the gal pals, though, but our Monday Matinee Movie Group got annihilated by the COVID shutdowns and our theater is no more for that.
