Curtains for nesting boxes?

First year chicken owner here. I have read that some people put curtains on their nesting boxes. I thought about making some, but questioned if the chickens would walk through them. Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks in advance!

Personally my chickens don’t like their nest to be blocked by anything especially my RIR and she definitely lets you know, but other chickens could be different

I would see how they do with the nest boxes without curtains first. If you have a few that don't seem to want to use them, then add some curtains and see if that makes a difference.

I have three boxes, two with curtains, one without but further back in the coop. They definitely prefer the ones with the curtains... though sometimes Maggie just lays on top of the straw bale in there... I dunno. Chicken brains are unfathomable.

My curtains are just tea towels pinned to the front, so they cover down about a third to half way. They seem to like the privacy, especially if I'm clomping about in the coop while they're laying.

My RIR's love the curtains and peek inside to see who is in there.

Thinks people 'need' the curtains way more than the chickens do.

If you do make curtains make sure the material can't unravel and create a tangling or choking scenario and that fasteners are secure.

I personally feel that they encourage broody-ness.;)
