Should custard resemble half-and-half or ice cream?

Asking because the custard at Culver's (a fast food restaurant local to the northern Midwest) tastes like a creamy ice cream, but I am currently drinking custard that tastes like a creamy half-and-half.

I also tried making custard that ended up tasting more like a pudding.

So what should it be?

I think custard is supposed to be like a thicker more pudding like ice cream. But idk maybe depends on the type. :idunno

I don't have much experience but when I made it it definitely resembled more of a pudding than ice cream or half and half.
And the recipe I used said that was when it would be done :idunno

Culvers calls theirs "frozen custard" so I feel like that would be different from regular custard regardless.

And for your question, I like any kind of custard. Lol

That might explain it!

That was mine experience too, so maybe I made it right?

The store-boughten stuff was like condensed milk, now that I think about it...

My mom's recipe and my variations of her recipe make something neither ice cream nor half and half in either taste or texture. Taste is somewhat like eggnog - I taste vanilla, nutmeg, and sugar as much or more than the eggs or milk. Texture is quite a bit like scrambled eggs made with cottage cheese but much smoother and more slippery.
