As a brand new person to this, I certainly do not expect anything from the person who shipped me the eggs. So many things could go wrong that would totally be on my end and that would not have anything to do with the seller. Of course, there is the soccer playing postal workers as well.

That is a VERY nice response you have typed out.

I would not replace the eggs, it might be a nice gesture but doing that you are :

1. Vulnerable to potential abuse by dishonest buyers.

2. Post Ofice can ruin them this time or ruin them again.

3. The buyer has no clue how to hatch them and he/she may likely get 0 hatch again.

4. You might be blamed for "infertile" eggs.

Did I forget something?

I did not sell many eggs in the past, but the ones I sold carried following disclaimer:

"SHIPPING EGGS IS RISKY. AS A SELLER I HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE SHIPPING AND HATCHING PROCESS, THEREFORE BUYER ASSUMES ALL RESPONSIBILITY AS FOR POTENTIAL OUTCOME OF HATCHING SHIPPED EGGS.

IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT

DO NOT BID / BUY .

Never have any problems.

I feel like this is perfectly written. No one can guarantee a hatch rate of course however when I bought my eggs locally, I inquired as to what their success rate was prior to buying. I would replace the eggs because it will create a better reputation for yourself even if it is user or Shipping error. I am incubating my first batch of hatching eggs as we speak and I have 26 total. I paid $42.00 for 21 eggs and received 5 extra eggs in case of loss. I have heard good things about this farm as well. They have up on their website now:

"Unfortunately, ------- Farm will no longer be shipping hatching eggs. Despite our best efforts at packing, the shipping caused too much variability in hatch results"

I assume they just had too much trouble with complaints and hatch rates. If I do not have a single viable eggs when I candle. I will expect either a refund or replacement eggs. As a buyer that's how I feel. Now If I screw them up, than its my fault of course. I think you are doing the right thing in replacing the eggs from a moral stand point. If they are lying, that's something they will have to deal with at some point. You should only replace them once. I don't think its fair to assume the worst of people and think that he/she would abuse you generosity.

I've had zero hatch rates from a breeder before. I didn't ask for a refund because I just assumed the problem was on my end. I bought hatching eggs from the same breeder a month later and got 8 out of 12 hatch. Personally I would replace the eggs for the cost of shipping with the understanding that I would only do that once per customer. If they get another zero hatch rate then they obviously don't know how to hatch eggs.

I have to agree. Give your customer the benifit of the doubt. If they are a repeat offender I would not. They might get mad but chances are you wouldnt want to do buisness with them anyway.

Luckily I have never had a total loss from eggs that I bought and were shipped but if I did I would not blame the seller. I think offering a one time replacement when the buyer pays additional shipping is very nice of you and you will probably end up with a repeat customer.

I believe it is good practice to replace them for the cost of shipping ONCE. In good faith, hoping to keep a customer. When you sold the eggs did you have a disclaimer about not being able to control the USPS's actions?

I remember I bought eggs from Reesepoultry. She packaged them VERY well. When they arrived, almost all were broken - the USPS had played soccer with the box. I posted here complaining about the treatment of the box and that lovely lady sent me more eggs. Now that was almost two years ago and I still remember her name because of that gesture and when I want those chickens again, I will buy from her. I never expected it and she did it anyways.

I would agree. I am worried about buying eggs that will be shipped because of the problems. I had my first hatch at 70% but am trying for above 80% before I buy eggs just so I am more experienced. I would never require a seller to replace the eggs but 6 for shipping would be nice. If I am an experienced hatcher, I may not buy eggs if I had a zero hatch rate from that seller again. Thanks for asking.
