Hi all- I have a 5mo old white leghorn pullet (well, hen now) who laid her first egg today, and the back part of her comb is a lil cyanotic, but she’s got no other symptoms. I know that cyanosis is caused by lack of oxygenated blood flow, but there’s no reason for that to be occurring. I’ll put a pic of it. When i picked her up to further investigate, it was a little cold/clammy to the touch (not warm like if there was blood running thru it) but when i kinda palpated it a little and held it between my fingers, blood flow returned (??) and it’s back to looking normal. Not concerned, just want an explanation 😂 ideas?? (first pic is before, second pic is after i messed w it lol)

Is it really hot where you are?
And she’s still a pullet until one year of age.
I’m in North Texas, so yes. However, it was only 93° today. They went through the whole summer with temps above 98°. 80% of their run is also shaded, and we have plenty of cold water sources and fans to circulate air. It’s definitely cooler this evening, however. It’s probably 85ish currently

It can be common for chickens with large combs to be discolored near the back or on tips if they experience stress, dehydration, and sometimes just from momentary stress. As long as it pinks up later, it may be fairly normal.

Which makes perfect sense considering her first egg. she was kinda kicked out of the nesting box by my alpha chicken and ended up laying her egg outside on the ground... not ideal for her i’m sure lol
