cyst? help!

A vet is a great option that many of us don't have. There is always some doubt when there is swelling because of the abscess--tumor--disease scenario, and not knowing whether to lance or not. Any time there is swelling around the eye or near sinuses, it is easy to think respiratory infection, by for some reason your picture doesn't look like the typical MG, coryza, or whatever, and I hope it is just an abscess.
It was. I took her to the vet and they lanced it. The vet had her in the back so I couldn't see, but she told me that there was a ton of puss in there. Because it showed up out of nowhere, she agreed that it was from an injury. I also got an antibiotic and anti inflammatory for 10 days. I'm just not sure how I'm going to keep them separated without causing total anxiety.

Can you place her in the coop in a dog crate with food and water? That will make it easier to medicate, watch her droppings, and keep her safe, while keeping them familiar with her. She can go out into the run or yard in her crate during the day. Glad it was just an abscess.

I'm so glad it was just an abcess! In my oppinion, if you ive her antibiotics, you should give her some probiotics in water (if you don't have the possibility to buy some, you could give her some yougurt).

Well the lump has not gone down AT ALL and it's been days. She looks so strange and she smells so so so bad. I think I'm going to discontinue the antibiotic. On an even worse note, two of my older pullets were taken by a fox (I think) the other day. I'm so sad about it, and feeling guilty.

I’m really sorry to hear about you pullets...You don't have to feel guilty for anything!! Now you must focus all your attention on this girl who needs your help. For how many days you have gave her antibiotics? Normally, the treatment should be give for at least 5 days(or more, it deepends on the situation). However, can you see even a small improvement? I think the bad smell could be due to the fact that the wound is infected.

Please don’t give up! She will be ok but you must have patience and to try everything to help your lovely girl! She is very beautiful!
