D - Day --- My First Experience of processing. No pics but *...

Sorry for slow response.... on July 15 my husband had a massive stroke and life here as we know it has drastically changed.
He lived through it, but is still barely even able to open his eyes. He is paralized on his left side.... so I've been at the hospitals and taking care of the farm. Please keep him in your prayers.

About my meaties. When Michael had the stroke I did not have time to process them. One of them, though still alive and EATING, was filled with maggots from laying around.

A friend hooked me up with some local Amish who took them and then gave me some back processed. It would have been a shame to have them go to waste. They were ENORMOUS!

As for plucking, i did scald according to Frugal's directions. The first 2 were so easy.
take care, and keep in mind that our lives can be forever changed in just one moment. live each day like it is your last...

Wow - so sorry to hear about your husband.

I pray that he recovers from this.

How very true. Six years ago last week I had a massive heart attack. My heart stopped three times, the first time for several minutes. I was not expected to make it and if I did, there was a high probability there would be brain damage. But I survived and am living a full life today thanks to the miracle of modern medicine. I have a strong sense of what you and your family must be going through. Everything else becomes secondary after something like this. Everything.

All that to say you are absolutely right. Live each day as if it were your last. One day, you're sure to be right. I didn't even know I was sick, wasn't overweight or anything, just one day, BOOM! Heart attack.

I'll be thinking of and pulling for you and your husband.

I have no problem killing lobsters since Alton Brown said that they are (literally) bugs, who's closest relative on the evolutionary scale is a cockroach... that, and the fact that they are ridiculously good to eat. I just made stuffed lobster last week. The key is to use a rolling pin and get the meat out of the legs too!
