Very cute! Did their eye stripes stay that prominent as they matured in any that are females?

Duckluck...it was nice meeting you after all this time. Hope you make it to Shawnee.

You too!

I have every plan of it!

The plans are in place, let's just hope for decent weather!

I am pleased to report I hatched 4 of 5 call duck eggs I bought through eBay, and they are almost four weeks old now.

This photo is shortly after they were hatched.

I know two of them will be white, and the other two will be....something else.

So, would gray be sort of Mallard-y looking? They're getting some lovely brown, laced looking feathers on their shoulders, and white tail feathers with black outlines. One is decidedly larger than the other 3, which makes me think it is a drake. 'Course, all of 'em could be drakes.

I totally cleaned out their brooder last night and it freaked them out. I guess they still wanted to bill and drill holes in the wet mix of shavings and spilled feed and water. Ick. So I put down a plastic cover from a small storage bin (it has raised edges, bumps, sort of, not sharp lips, so to speak), covered that with shelf liner, and placed their waterer on that platform. Then I scattered shavings over it so it looked like the same "floor" but would not let the spilled water get down to the actual layer of pine shavings bedding.

Fresh bedding, what a novelty. We'll see how long THAT lasts.

I so love the little duckies!

Yep, the grays are mallard colored/patterned. I have some and they are gorgeous! Love, love, love my Calls!
Good luck trying to keep ANYTHING dry or clean with ducks-they just don't understand the concept. Despite all of the things we think of to try and keep brooders dry, they keep coming up with more inventive ways of getting everything wet. Just when I have that, "Aha, I've got it" idea, they have one of their own, "Aha, we know how to make a wet, sloppy mess out of this new, improved idea mom came up with".

Game over, I lose.

It's been below zero here for a few days. My poor ducks have ice on their feathers and chicken poop all over them from sleeping under the chicken roosts. I've put up a poop board so they can go under it now without getting pooped on. I have one white duck who looked brown! Since he is my favorite, I brought him in the house today for a bath. He's back to being beautiful. I wish I could have him inside all winter.
