Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

I might have just answered my own question. I guess if people have a flock that free ranges all year round rather than being segregated during breeding season, something like that could happen. I'm having trouble imagining what the mating process would be like, though.

They are very small so they must be call crosses they still fit in my hand and are almost 4 weeks old and starting to get their big duck feathers.

There are several other breeds of small ducks that could be part of a cross, but those really look much more like Runner ducklings to me. Neither of them has any of the standard characteristics of Call ducks. You might want to call the lady you got the eggs from to politely ask what made her think they were Call eggs, and if she meant it was some other breed crossed with a Call.

that is sweet that they are still small enough to fit in your hand. Love the fact that they're indoors on the hardwood floor.

It's too cold for them outdoors even our garage gets pretty cold at night. Since the day they were born they have been indoor duckies having pool time in my giant bathtub and running around pooping everywhere. Since they've gotten bigger their access to the main floor has been limited to just the office space since they poop so much.

Yes, the lady I got them from as eggs said they were call ducks

They may have been call duck eggs...but the drake was almost definitely something else. Runners are a fairly light breed & will stay pretty small body wise. The height & shape of the head are what is telling me these are crosses.

I have hatched a couple call/ancona crosses this past year due to the fact that my birds were penned together. They were call eggs & stayed pretty small, but were definitely mixed from looking at bill, neck & legs. It does happen, especially with a larger breed drake in with call hens. It usually doesn't go the other way though as the little call drakes have trouble holding large hens to get the job done.

Who was it? Let me know so I can avoid buying eggs from them ><;; Yeah, those aren't Calls at all. They don't even look like poor quality ones...I don't think they're calls whatsoever. Not even a cross. They're gigantic, with large, flat heads and long, sloping bills.

I mean don't get me wrong, they're still cutie patooties, but I'm afraid you may have been misled. :/
