Still, I'm not proud of myself. If this is how badly I flip out at a relatively common affliction with a straightforward method of treatment, I really don't wanna know how much I fall apart when a REAL emergency occurs. :/ Why does all your training and level-headed decision making go right out the window when it's your own?

Same reason a pediatrician can be calm treating children that don't belong to them. I'm very happy that worked, and I'm probably hyper-sensitive right now because of the loss last weekend. Some vets will tell you to use the same hairball stuff you give to cats, but I think Amiga's coconut oil is a better solution.

I agree. Apparently coconut oil great for birds' feathers, too. A little spoonful every now and again helps their plumage become thick, strong and shiny. Same thing for us hoomins!

An emotional attachment changes things. I'm never level headed when I comes to my children or my animals. I try to be... But it's hard when their yours. You just love them so much! I know I would be even more worried if I had almost lost a duckling... I'm relieved to hear she's smells like her little cute self again!

Speaking of worrying... I know ducks wings twitch and some amount is considered normal. Gidgets wings twitch more than I am used to. It's not constant but it's alot. It seems to happen more when she's nervous. At least that's what it seems like. They fall to her sides and fan a bit and twitch like crazy. I know she's still adjusting so I'm trying not to worry about it but I thought I would mention it just in case.

How old is she? Might be molt... mine get really twitchy when the hedgehog quills start coming in...

She's 3 years old. She has been loosing feathers but I wasn't sure if she was molting or stressed from the move.

It might be a bit of both. Ducks are very much creatures of habit, and even positive changes can throw them for a loop. I've read stories of ducks kept in horrible conditions to the point the ducks were dirty and malnourished, but they still were in a panic for a couple of weeks after they were moved into a nice, loving environment. They're going to love being with you after they adjust to the move.

Very true... we left a cardboard box by our door and ours stopped dead in mid run on their daily troop out the door... they acted like that little box was going to eat them, lol!

They do thrive on schedules and patterns... just give them time, love and treats... :)

Okay, thank you both so much. Great things to know! I was also wondering when their laying season is and how long I can expect the hen to lay (to what age?)
