Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

Humn I have always wondered if ducks are born with all their eggs in them like humans..... @Amykins Do you know?

Hmm...you know, I'm not sure! I know mammals have a limited ovarian reserve, and birds only develop one ovary to make themselves more lightweight. They also tend to shrink during non-mating months. On the other hand, I've seen a lot of chickens (and ducks)keep laying for a decade or so right up to when they would die of old age! So if they are born with a limit, it probably doesn't affect them.

I think it is sooo funny when breeding season comes around because my ducks just plump up like little balloons! They are just rolly pollys when they get near breeding season!

OMG, 18angovem. That is what i am talking about regarding cuteness. When a bird plumps up like a little round balloon I go into orbit squeal overload. How do you deal with it?

It happens slowly so I dont notice it until one day when I take a good look and they are just sooooo cute! Especially my white duck I had a while ago. She was literally a balloon. Sadly she died of a prolapse.... I guess she got too big of a balloon of a body...... She was soo cute because she was the biggest of my ducks (Still little and cute just bigger than my other. She did come straight from Art Lundgrend so she was very good quality) and bullied the males. I also thought it was cute that her mate was a beautiful small little tiny duck that actually looked almost identical to wobbles and was my best quality (I payed a pretty penny for him). I think wobbles has a smaller beak but my little buddy had a huge head and squat body. My dominant gray male used to bully him until his mate stopped my grays shanagens.

oh I am sorry you lost her to prolapse. That's so much the sad side of pet ownership. Try not to think about it. Do your little calls let you handle them much?
