Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

Bean is getting even louder, I didn't think it was possible, ha! Whenever she gets excited, she starts swinging her head and "Joker Ducking" all over the place. Last night she let one rip that was even louder and higher pitched than ever before! MEP MEP MEP MEP MEP MEP MEP MEP!

...This happened at 10:30 last night, to boot. My neighbors probably despise me right now....

I've read Storeys guide to raising ducks, twice. It doesn't help with this question.

What colors might it create if you breed a white call duck to other commen colors?

What might it create if you mix a black call duck with a white call duck?

What color duck might it create if you mix a black east indie with a black call duck?

I have an Australian spotted that's a little to big. I was thinking of putting him and a white or other color together.

white is recessive so the other colors will probably over dominate it.

For the black east indie and black call duck question the answer is you'll get a mixed bred duck that just looks black.

It's true. Two whites will breed true, but if there's any color thrown into the line, boy howdy, good luck ever getting it out again! Wobbles has that little black head feather, and when pressed his breeder said that he got his from Art Lundgren, who in turn told me that he had a snowy from his friend that got into his whites and that was 15 years ago!

Oh! Also, I have a question for you call duck veterans. What are the signs that a call hen is about to lay? Bean's been acting out of sorts lately: being more skittish than usual, burying herself in piles of fresh laundry, becoming more bitey, etc. I know it's still way too early for her to be laying (she's only 18 weeks), but I can't help but wonder if her hormones are ramping up.

I don't get it, your saying don't breed a white call to my Australian spotted because if I go to breed whites from the offspring, they won't breed without spots of color on them? Technically I couldn't call the offspring calls. they would be a mix of call and AP. and I wouldn't be breeding whites or caring about that. Just.... Would one white pop out, of 100 eggs or 1/4 would be white and the rest would look like AS "color", or some would be white, some AS "color" and some a spotted mix like a pied?

Would a pied call mixed with an AS create ducks mixes in spots with some being spotted in the pied parents solid color pied, and some being spotted in AS colors IN THE Peid spots.

Is the sheen in a BEI recessive then? (buff good guy).

What would be a fun color to breed to my Australian spotted BIG BOY.(big bobby brown). I don't like greys.

he needs a girl friend. What could create a neat looking mutt (since I can't get another AS)?

Il show you guys pictures and tell my story if you want but they arnt call ducks so I thought I'd keep that from being shared. They are my baby's. They are bantom ducks like calls at least. :)

How do they get green sheen colored calls then?

In a last ditch attempt to get some snowy to actually hatch and live this year I stuck 3 eggs under a few broody orpingtons...I have 1 hatched and 2 internally pipped!

Well I know that other Ducks will begin wondering off more and building practice nests (my Muscovies, mallards, pekin , and my rouens have done this )

The under the sheen it is black so I believe that it would be black but you might get some sheen

And now for some news of my own I have pictures of Mickey and Tickey they are flying now but I still have to wait just a bit longer because of there last few blood feathers.

I think because the stewards had put them on straw overnight then come through first thing and changed them to wood shavings and took away their water.  Right after that happened I came through to check on them and tidy up by the time the judges came through the two young boys had a beak-ful and went into a defensive crouch ready to take off someones finger LOL  if you can't get them to stand up they can't be judged on conformation so it's a big point deduction.  The fact that they still placed is a good sign that next year they will probably be winners.
Awe, defensive boys, so innocent. Anyway, all your calls are absolutely beautiful but #1 in my opinion, is they are sooooo cute.
