Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

You really think so? She's only 4 months old, though. Maybe she's just copping an attitude. :/ Time will tell I suppose. Right now my biggest concern is getting enough calcium in her, she's decided that grit is horrifying. We've been sneaking egg shells into her food but I don't know if it's enough.

If you're still feeding Mazuri Maintenance, I wouldn't recommend giving her supplemental calcium. That can cause tons of problems if they're building up calcium their bodies can't use.

As far as the grit goes, I give my Calls chick grit at first, but she's old enough now to have regular grit. I'm kind of worried about her avoiding grit since she doesn't get to forage every day.

I don't have any ideas about her hiding in the laundry, but I've never had a house duck. Maybe she's just bored and looking for something new to do?

She also quacks like crazy around Wobbles, and she does the head bob thing like crazy! She usually follows it up with lowering her head and running in circles like a kid on a sugar high.

And that's good to know about mazuri. I never thought that maintenance = layer feed. She does get to forage some, we take them to the park at least twice a week and she still has that ball bearing in her crop, which is like ubergrit, to say the least.

No, that wasn't what I meant. The Mazuri Maintenance is for non-laying season. There's a breeder feed you can get for laying season. What I mean is that I wouldn't try to supplement the calcium if you're still feeding Mazuri Maintenance and she's not laying. Her body isn't going to be able to use the calcium she's getting, and you won't see signs of that causing a problem right off. Once you see signs of calcium overload, you sometimes have an irreversible situation on your hands.

Yes, it sounds like she wants Wobbles to be her boyfriend. Some of our ducks start that behavior even younger than Bean is. Are you letting them hang around together occasionally without anything between them?

The only sign I ever got in the beginning was an egg. I think the ducks were more surprised than I. Now that they are seasoned, they make nests, make nests and make nests. Sometimes get broody and pull feathers out and make nests. Sit in nests and make nests. But that varies by duck. Here is an old video of Snow dropping an egg - the only sign she shows is slowing down a bit.

My Rouens started laying at 7 mo. I would think call ducks would mature at about the same rate. They are the same species, just bred for small size and loud mouths

GUYS LOOK!! :weee :weee

I didn't want to update her progress because I'm really superstitious and was afraid I'd jinx it, because she was very late (Day 29) and I had to assist her. (Not to brag but) I waited until the perfect time to help her out, her navel was open just a teeny bit and I just put some anti-bac ointment and took her out to my broody.

Her name's Linny. Gray or snowy?
